Neuro Linguistic Programming
One of the many major benefits of NLP is that change can take place amazingly quickly. It is possible to transcend limitations that we impose upon ourselves.
NLP came about in the early 1970s when Richard Bandler and John Grinder studied the work of 3 leading psychotherapists because of their ability to consistently bring about remarkable change in people.
Richard Bandler a psychologist, mathematician and computer expert and John Grinder a linguist are the founders of NLP. They sought out and studied Virginia Satir who was an outstanding family therapist; also Dr Milton Ericson considered to be the world’s leading hypnotherapist and British anthropologist Gregory Bateson.
Normally, even when we make a conscious decision to make
desired changes and as determined as we may be to have certain results we often slip back into old habits and self sabotage. It doesn’t matter how many books we have read or courses we have taken, we often find ourselves back where we started. A perfect example of this is those that have tried losing weight. Many even succeeded in losing the weight only to regain it. It was never their intention to have this happen but usually it does.
Our brain is like a piece of computer software that’s been programmed a certain way. When we try to change the outcome by giving different commands the result is that it doesn’t work. However, if we update our software we will see different results immediately. Neuro Linguistic Programming is about re-programming your mind. Neuro is our nervous system.
In NLP we refer to our 5 senses a lot. What we see, hear, feel taste, and smell. These are the senses we use to take in all our information. Linguistic is referring to language both verbal; what we speak and also our body language, gestures, posture and habits. These with our thoughts feelings and actions form our habitual programs.
Building Rapport, Matching and mismatching, reframing, modalities, representational systems, anchoring, swish patterns, mirroring, pacing and timeline are all popular terms used in NLP as well as many others. NLP is a very interesting topic and a very effective way of making change. If you know about NLP and you know of Tony Robbins work you will see that he has packaged NLP into a great program that has worked for numerous individuals and groups. There is little doubt of the success that he has had with using NLP as the foundation.
NLP is an art and science of human excellence it’s a tool for those interested in personal and professional change in their life.
Many NLP components can be used on their own. I have personally witnessed and experienced amazing results with the NLP Phobia Cure. I have seen it work for individuals with major phobias, people who have fears so real to them that they will flush, sweat, and even cry at the mere mention of their particular phobia. I have seen that person 10 minutes later after going through the phobia cure process either participating in that event that they fear so much or at least be able to talk about it and be detached from the emotion of fear. This is only one of the many very effective NLP processes available.
