Coaching
Coaching is used to help individuals or groups determine and achieve their goals. Knowing what you want is one thing taking the action to make sure it happens is another. We can all make our list of goals and dreams but if we don’t take action that’s all they will remain…a list.
Many people know that they are not happy with life the way it is and want to change something in their personal or professional life, but often they are not sure what it is that needs to be changed. One of the most important things in the coaching process is to determine what it is you want to achieve. Only when you know what you want to achieve can you make a realistic plan of action specific to your goals.
The first session is what I call “Lay it all out on the table” this is where we find out what’s working in your life and what’s not. This is an important aspect to focus on and one that helps set up the foundation of the sessions to come. If you just go stabbing in the dark you may make a few small changes but you will probably not find the result that you’re looking for. Getting what you want usually comes about by discovering what is most important to you and prioritizing your life.
Something to keep in mind is that coaching is not therapy. Some coaches are experienced in a number of other lifestyle related skills such as counseling, NLP, Thought field therapy or EFT. These skills can be very beneficial for many coaching clients. Having a coach that has a variety of related skills to call upon during the coaching sessions is a bonus. Not to confuse the two, coaching is much more about moving forward toward a future while therapy spends a good deal of time exploring the past.
The coach will assist and support the client but cannot promise any specific outcome as success is ultimately up to the client. They are the ones that have to take the action on their goals. The coach will help to keep them on track and keep the client accountable for their actions or non actions.
There are numerous types of coaching niches.
